Hello and welcome to lesson two. Do you have your worksheet ready? Good, then let's get right into this category two leadership. The person who has this soft skill is able to guide and direct the attention and actions of a group towards the achievement of a common goal. So the person who has this soft skill of leadership is able to guide and direct the attention and actions of a group towards the achievement of a common goal. A real life example of this would be crisis management.
Alright, so, unlike in category one, seeing the big picture here and category two leadership The specific skills contained within this category are not so easily clustered together. There are two that can be clustered but the rest are individual in their significance. So I just like to go through and read through the list once and then go back and break out the finer points within each. So, we begin with team building, decision making, delegating, strategic planning, giving feedback, supervising, coaching and mentoring, manager management, also known as managing up and managing difficult situations. Okay, so let's begin here at the top with team building. team building about being able to identify the strengths of each individual within a group and leveraging those strengths for the accomplishment of a task.
Okay, so team building is about being able to identify the strengths of each and every individual within a group. And having the ability to leverage those strengths together for the accomplishment of a task. This is a soft skill that you believe that you have, that would be fantastic. Remember to jot it down on your worksheet. Next we have decision making now these two decision making and delegating can be clustered together. These two are about commitment.
So an effective leader with the soft skill of good decision making is able to commit To the decision that he or she has finally made, commit to moving forward with it believing in themselves and the decision that they have come to. But delegating an effective leader with this soft skill is able to commit to the choice of person that they have given a task to believing that this person will be able to complete the task to fruition. Next, we have strategic planning. Strategic Planning is about thinking ahead, and having a sense of vision. This soft skill is about being able to work together with others to make that vision a reality. So thinking 10 steps ahead into the future and working backwards from that.
I'm developing the steps needed To achieve that goal. Next we have giving feedback. giving feedback is about having the ability to be diplomatic, on the job that's extremely important to be able to give feedback in a diplomatic way, but also in personal relationships is this soft skill vital when especially someone needs to understand the ways in which they can make a relationship better. Next, we have supervising. The best way to impact supervising is to contrast it to micromanaging. Good supervisors are hands off and trusting.
Coaching and mentoring. Coaching and Mentoring is about being a positive example for others. Manager management also known as as managing up, managing up or manager management is a way of negotiating your needs with your supervisor around tasks and things like timelines, support and resources. So this is a way of letting your manager or your supervisor know what it is you need in order to do your best work. And finally, we have here managing difficult situations. This soft skill is about not internalizing the difficulty at hand, not making it about you, but rather using logic versus emotions to address challenges.
Okay, so, which soft skills from this list? Do you feel that you have? And which soft skills Would you like to develop? jot those down on your worksheet. And I'll see you over at lesson three.
