Okay, now it's time to put all these tips together and to really get ready for that meeting that appointment with your boss to ask for a raise. Now, I'm going to tell you right up front, you're not going to like this homework assignment, you're not going to like this suggestion. It's actually the most important suggestion of anything discussed in this course. And it really could make the difference between you walking into that meeting with the confidence you need to get that raise versus coming across nervous, uncomfortable, unsure of yourself and your boss dismissing you. And here's the tip. I want you to practice your meeting in advance.

On video, hold your cell phone up, interview yourself better yet, have a friend, a colleague, even a family member, do a practice interview with you. Have you asking that person for arrays you pretend that person is your boss and you go through everything you would want to say? In this meeting, now, here's the thing you need to video recorded. Ideally, you have a friend family member who's asking you the questions, and they're hitting record. And the questions are pretty obvious. So what do you want to talk about?

You know, why do you deserve a raise the basic questions, you've got answers you have prepared. But if you seem nervous, uncomfortable, or speaking too quickly, or too softly, your boss isn't going to take you seriously. So how do you know how you're coming across, especially if you're nervous? You need to practice in advance on video. So here's the thing, you've got to record yourself, and you've got to watch it. I know, I know.

You're thinking, I don't want to watch myself. I don't like my voice. And like my wrinkles, my hair. Your boss has to look at that. So you might as well know how you're coming across. People don't like doing this, but I'm telling you, it's the single biggest one To get over nervousness when asking for a raise, or frankly, going and presenting in any kind of meeting, or talk or PowerPoint presentation practice on video.

But here's the trick. You can't just do it once and say, well, I've done it on video. That's it. And you can't just do it and watch it. You have to watch the video of yourself. And then make careful notes.

What did you like? What did you not like? Where were you persuasive? And where did you seem a little uncertain? Or did your voice fade? Where's your expression look like?

A little nervous boss. make notes. And then here's the thing, you've got to do it again. You need to practice your interview again, and you've got to record it. And I think you can see where I'm going with this. Yeah, you've got to watch the video again.

And you have to take notes what you like and what you do. Don't like, ideally, the list of don't likes has gone down. The second time I like the list of what you do like is going up to it again and again. And again. Now you may be one of the lucky few who can do it once on video and you're like, well, that's great. That's how I want to come across.

I look comfortable, I look confident, I made a great case, I would give me a raise. You may feel that after the first time you've practiced on video, or that may happen to you after the fifth time or the 10th time or the hundredth time. I don't really care how long it takes. You may want to practice for two weeks, but you know what? It's worth it. If you go into that interview, completely confident.

Knowing that you've come across your absolute best. You can only help your odds of getting the raise. You don't want to go into that interview with an image of yourself. Kinda sort of maybe Okay, only half confident. You want to go into this job interview meeting, thoroughly confident that whether you get the raise or not, you're completely confident that you've made your case, the best possible way that you look comfortable, confident, relaxed, you've got your substance, you've got your style, everything is set doesn't guarantee that you're going to get the raise, but you've done everything you could possibly do to increase your odds of getting that raise. So some of you're going to want to skip this step.

Some of you are going to want to just sit back, watch the video, do it TJ has a few good points on corporate, you've wasted your time. Frankly, if you've gone this far, if you don't go to the next step. Now, there used to be a time when you had the excuse that well there's no video cameras. It's too expensive to hire a TV crew. You don't have that excuse any longer. Ever.

One is surrounded by video cameras, it could be on your cell phone, an iPad, a tablet, a webcam, go to the grocery store and get a $10 webcam if you need one. You cannot use the technology excuse that you can't record yourself on video. Because you may be very surprised sometimes people look at themselves that wow, come on across really well. Didn't think I came across that well, but other times people will watch the video and think, you know, I thought I was great. I had no idea I was fidgeting with my finger the whole time as if I were on drugs or something. Video won't lie.

It will be immensely helpful. So I want you right now the next exercise, practice your meeting asking for a raise on video again and again and again until you like it. Thanks for joining me in this course. And I want to really wish you good luck. Getting that raise. You deserve it.
