Let's lay out the specific goals for this course. Number one, I want you to know how to look your absolute best. Anytime you have to do an interview, whether you're seated or standing, whether you're walking, regardless if you're in front of a video camera, if you're in front of a microphone, this course is going to help you know exactly how to come across your best. Your style, not my style. Not some famous politician, but your style, so that you're relaxed, comfortable, confident and appear that way to the audience. The second goal of media training is knowing how to shape a message.

Now if you're being interviewed by a traditional newspaper, trade publication, TV broadcast radio news broadcasts, there's a great chance that it's not all live, you're going to be edited. So we have to narrow the focus of our message down. So this course is going to give you specific tools of figuring out what to say How do you really narrow it down to your top three messages, something you can say in 30 seconds or less? The third goal is how to answer questions. Now, there's this popular myth that media training is about, ignore the questions and say whatever you want wrong, that will get you into trouble. Reporters will not like you will not respect that.

So we do have to answer questions, but it's not quite the same way you answer questions in the rest of your life, your business life, your personal life, your professional life. The fourth skill, the final skill, in many ways, what's most important is knowing how to package your messages with interesting quotable sound bites, so that you know, before the interview even starts, what quote is going to get in that text or that newspaper story, what soundbite is going to get on the evening news, or radio broadcast. This is critically important. It's the little least understood part of dealing with immediates the thing you don't find in textbooks. It's not taught in business school or law school or anyplace else. The flip side of that scale is knowing how to not accidentally have sound bites come out of your mouth better off message.

Some people are great at sound bites, but everything out of their mouth is a sound bite half the time it's great. The other half the time it causes them so much trouble. It gets them fired or ruins their reputation. So it's not just about being a walking talking, soundbite machine. It's about control. So those are the four main goals of this course.

Now, it's designed to help you whether you're going in front of traditional media, or just creating your own media. Some of you might just want to do a better job with your YouTube channel, your Facebook channel, videos you create these skills will help you as well, but it's designed to help you. Anytime you're trying to communicate with people through the new media, traditional media and social media. I am going to ask you, I'll warn you right now from time to time to do some practice on video. You really want to get the most out of the course you'll upload them here for critiques but you don't have to, but that is the way to get the most out of the course.
