In this video, you will observe how I edit a dense text block about carbon taxes and make it easier to read and understand.
I pick three sentences, edit them, and then present the old sentence and the new edited sentence side by side for a before-and-after comparison. You are welcome to stop the video during those screens to better understand the editing process and compare it to your editing process. Remember: There are no two editing of the same text that are exactly alike. Editing is not an exact science like mathematics. Therefore it would be presumptuous to say that one editing solution is "Correct" and the other one is "Wrong."
But the idea is to educate ourselves about the possibilities of plain writing solutions by

eliminating abstract nouns and verbs,
eliminating euphemisms,
splitting long sentences into shorter ones, and
cleaning up the sentence as much as we can.
