DESCRIPTION: Sir Arthur Ignatius Conan Doyle was a British writer and medical doctor, most famously known for his creation of the character Sherlock Holmes in 1887 when he published A Study in Scarlet, the first of four novels and more than fifty short stories about Holmes and Dr. Watson. The Sherlock Holmes stories are generally considered milestones in the field of crime fiction, with their popularity withstanding the test of time, continuing to draw fascination over 100 years following Holmes&rsquo; character&rsquo;s conception.
However, there is more than meets the eye when it comes to Doyle&rsquo;s life. Doyle studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh Medical school from 1876-1881 and began writing short stories whilst studying.
