DESCRIPTION: The vast majority of my students are or want to be members of the first-responder community. First responders must be able to think instinctively and intuitively but also critically. These responders cannot afford analysis paralysis. Literacy, writing, and critical thinking skills are tools everyone should possess, but each takes years of work to develop and even more years - actually, a lifetime - to maintain. These three skills feed on and reinforce one another.
Thinking is the active process by which we develop an understanding of ourselves, others, and our world. The process of thinking enables us to solve problems, interpret information, make sense of our feelings and attitudes, discuss important issues, establish beliefs, and work toward the completion of goals. Thinking is an essential component in our lives as human beings.
