The second lid I'm going to show you is the rounded dome lid that's going to fit right on top of there. And the dome lid, it's a good lid because it's going to counter that warping like that first lid, we did that straight across, it's gonna be more likely to want to slump and warp during the firing where the dome lid is less likely to do that because the weight is distributed outward. And that flat lid is really limiting to you know, only pieces four or five inches across, you want to go Don't you don't want to go much wider than that. So this dome lid about to show you it'll work great on small little containers like this, or even larger casserole dishes, large basket type shapes, things like that. You can really make these large, as long as it has that slight dome to support that way.

Or distribute that weight I should say. I was gonna send her up ball of clay here. And again, I would not recommend throwing your lips like this. I'm simply doing this just to speed up the demonstration process. And I'm throwing this lid knob side down. So I'm just throwing in a shallow bowl, throwing it upside down.

As we're throwing it, I'm keeping an eye on this edge. It should remain slightly, slightly thicker and rounded because anywhere there's clay on clay contact, that's going to be your danger area is going to want to chip and crack on your runs the potential of chipping and cracking on you. But if you can keep it round, and maybe have a slightly thicker, nothing too thin because we are looking pretty close. I'm going to double check my measurement on my vessel. Now some hunters like to cross the tongs over and take your measurement like so. Which works great too.

Can we bring that out here and take our measurement we are looking pretty good. jumped in there a little bit. I think this lid will work. Okay, now I'm just gonna stiffen it up for a second and we will finish it up. Now that our listeners had a chance to set up, I'm going to go ahead and remove it from the wheel here and then we can trim it and complete our forming process. Just off to the side, grab us a bat for trimming.

Take our small bowl here and just center it up as normal. Cast looking pretty good. Nice gonna secure it down with some small lumps of clay. Try not to use anything too big they can get into your way while you're trimming something this small, something very small touch the form, just not to lock it into position, nothing anything too big on there. Something like so. Now we can continue, insert to trim and finish the forming process here.

Now what I like to do and what I recommend to my students that do is just trim this completely round echo the shape on the inside to get a nice round dome. Some Potter's will try to trim a lid on top of this piece on top of these forms through this something like so and they'll continue to remove this clay. I'll just illustrate what I'm talking about right here for a second. Let's clean out the leg. It's a little soft. We'll make it work.

So if you were to try to trim your lid on here, often it's gonna look something like this Nene come back in there, this bunch of stuff made up some but generally I don't like this process because the trimming process and the throwing process are very different. When you're throwing you're dealing with a lot of water fluid movements, soft material when you're trimming or dealing with leather, hard clay sharp tools and it's a subtractive process and it creates a very different fill So handles like this are often short and squatty and kind of sharp edge, don't have that organic feel necessarily to them that the throne clay can. And that short squatty handle is not necessarily good, especially if this is something that you're using in the kitchen. So you're making a garlic jar sugar jar or something like that, where maybe you're gonna be trying to get into when your hands are wet from cooking or washing your hands.

We don't want that small little model but it's hard to grab a hold of something you can just really grab a hold up. That's not gonna slip out of your hands. Okay, so now that we've pretty much trimmed our dome here, come back in and clean up this outside edge with my ribs. Next step, we're going to score the center of that And then a small piece of clay or knob landed up in the center of Berlin and then either using your fingernail or the spoon saw your wooden knife, secure that knob to the lid. Now I'm going to use that to throw my handle. He's at my fingertips, then what?

Now obviously we're going to need to use some water but try not to overuse the water. Limit your mountain as much as you can because you don't want to rehydrate. live below you wishing cause that to work. First I'm going to do a pull down with this small knob to make sure it's really secured to that lid and I have a nice flow the lid up to that handle something like that and I'm going to continue to throw it. Again I like these taller knobs something that you can really grab ahold of. You know I love to cook I like being in the kitchen.

If I'm trying to get into it. You know that garlic jar real quick. I'm making some pasta or something I want that I can grab a hold of with those wet fingers and not worry about that lid popping off. A little detail spiral here. We'll go something like that. Let's see how we fit.

I'll show you another good tip right now for this like this for lizard and he lives in general if you want to test how they're going to fit well obviously like if I was to put this on the forum and I didn't quite fit right or I wanted to clean up certain areas or rework it a little bit, it'd be very difficult to come back in and pick it up and remove it from the lid. But by simply taking a little piece of folded newspaper or paper towel, and either laying that across the piece are picking your lit up with it. You can take that lower down into your form In fact, oh I need to tweak that a little area right there. You simply pick up the paper to readjusted. Okay. So that lid has a definitely a different feel to it right there.

I'm going to go ahead and move this newspaper is kind of in the way the pieces and we go like that
