In delivering a baby, the pelvic floor simply needs to get out of the way. As I mentioned in the pelvic floor module, most pelvic floors air on the tighter tight and this is even more true when it's having to support the weight of a baby in utero so the emphasis on relaxing the pelvic is even more important as you go to prepare for labor and delivery.
There are many ways to assist in getting your pelvic floor to relax and lengthen. The most important is to focus on your breathing all day every day. On your inhale, you want to send your breath all the way down below your belly and into your pelvic bowl, aiming to feel your pelvic floor let go and lengthen. This is the best way to ensure your pelvic floor remains as relaxed as possible, keeps any length you gain through releasing it, and is great practice for labor when you are breathing through your contractions and allowing for the baby to come through.
