DESCRIPTION: The effects of light are cumulative, irreversible, and cause premature aging of the objects. By exposing (like in an exhibit) the objects we are contributing to their degradation.
The sensitivity to light is common to all cultural goods, whichever material they may be made of (organic or inorganic materials, with or without decorative layers or protections). The negative consequences of light exposure continue even in darkness, after the first exposure.
So, exposure to light is another serious problem because the longer an object is exposed to light and the greater its intensity, the more significant the damage. Because degradation by light is cumulative and irreversible, the objects should always be exposed to the minimum required levels of light and UV and we can play with the law of reciprocity.
