DESCRIPTION: As one of the earliest members of the Crisis Text Line, a suicide and crisis support line based in New York, I have personally worked in over 1,000 crisis situations. I know that sometimes life can get overwhelming even when you’re not dealing with addiction or recovery. When you start to throw in those two factors, it can become too much to deal with. If life ever gets you feeling this way, even for a moment or two, please seek out some support. You don’t have to use a specialist hotline, but I’d recommend you call one. The Crisis Text Line (text 741741) is one I’d suggest, along with National Suicide (1-800-784-2433). You can call 211 to speak with someone if you aren’t sure what kind of help you need. If you are outside the USA, you should make a list of the numbers in your area and keep them to hand.
There are all kinds of scenarios that can cause you to need or want to speak with someone other than your local support options. Reaching out for help is not weak; it’s a sign you...
