So what we're going to do now is have a look at where you can find the original registers on ancestry to browse. And the reason you might want to do this is when you carry out searches on the indexes, of course, you're relying on the name to come up having been transcribed properly. And although you can put in the template, you can click on the box, put in a name. As we've seen, you can click on the box saying exact on the surname, or you can leave that to get variations. But even when ancestry comes up with variations on a name, it does not cover every possibility. And so occasionally, if you really can't find the person, you're looking Before in the indexes, it's a very good idea to find out whether you can browse the original registers in the kind of way you would have done before the internet.

Now, it's not immediately obvious on ancestry, how to do this. So I'm going to show you how this works. So go back to the home page, we come down here to all we could go to that let's go to card catalog. As always, with various ways of getting into something that will do it this way. So here's a list of all the kind of record collections that are on ancestry. What we're going to do going to first of all, if we're looking at parish registers, we're going to go to birth, marriage and death.

So we want to narrow it down, narrow it down to the area we want. So we can then on this left column filter by location. So I'm going to look for the parish registers of the town I currently live in, which is ships in OnStar. So we need to narrow it down again. So you want to go to England. And then we're going to go down to warrants.

You know, the reason I'm picking Warwickshire is because it is very well covered on ancestry. You won't have such good luck with some of the other counties but it's always worth checking to see what they have. Now, you'll get a long list, still have various things and of course course you see here select we know that's not what we want that's going to be the IDI just the transcripts again so we want to scroll down. And we've got Birmingham there. So if you wanted to look at Birmingham ones, you'd click on that but I don't want Birmingham. So let's continue down.

I do happen to know that the one we want is actually on the second page. Okay, so here we are, this is getting closer to we want marriages baptisms, but here we are. We're at shooting the Church of England baptisms, marriages and burials from 1535 to 1812. That's what we want. So we're going to click on that. Now what happens then is you will then see on this right hand side, the ability to browse This collection, which means you can actually go to the pages and go through.

So let's see what parishes are here. I see as you can see, Walter is very well covered with pretty well most of the parishes there. So we're going to go to Shipston, which is not on here. So we will go to Hannah, we'll go to wells born. Just Where am I? Why I have family living actually.

So you can see here, what years are available. Let's go to 1700 to 1749. So we're looking there. And let's have a look. Now you got to get on on this bottom. strip is the various pages you can go to and move along quite quickly to get to the page you want, sometimes it's not always easy to find the page you want, you have to kind of work out where exactly you are.

So here on page one, and we're in baptisms, 1698. And there are 32 pages, and they are all baptisms, baptisms, marriages and burials so you let's say you're looking for a date, you know, you're looking around 1713, perhaps, you might go, let's try page 20. See where that takes us. So you put in, so Okay, we're not too far off there and we can bring up the panel again, then move along a bit further. So let's see what's on page 25. Yeah, much closer.

So you might want to then if you're looking around 1730, you could start around about here. And I find if you're going to browse these registers, it's actually quite a good idea to cover wide area and wide time range and just go through the registers, picking out your surname you're looking for whenever you can, because you can then actually get a really good idea of the of the family in the parish. can note them all down and then sort of try and work out Mater from that all the different relationships, which is quite nice way of doing it. Actually, I quite like doing it this way. This parentless register is quite easy to read. to a very large, nice clear writing there.

So if you get a parish like this and with and your ancestors were there and you have quite a lot of instances of your ancestor then it's quite a nice relaxing way of searching you only times when it gets a bit tedious is if the writing is really really difficult faded out or if you still cannot find your answer but there you go that is a very good way of searching the registers online if if they are actually there, so it's always worth checking
