Hi, and well done on completing section three, you now have a good understanding of civil registration and how to use it. Now, some of you might have found a few problems when you're reading your certificates. One of the most common is where the Father's name has been left out of a birth certificate and is missing in also the marriage certificate. Now, this often means that the person was a legitimate and maybe even didn't know who their own father was. And unfortunately, of course, this kind of information can be extremely difficult to find. Another problem you might have is where the information in the certificate will quite match with what you thought you already knew.

Now, this of course could be because what you already knew is not quite right or it could be that the information in the certificate is wrong. What we always have to do in any form of historical research is to continually as far as we can match up documents with other documents. And so we'll be doing this in the next section where we're looking at census records and where you can double check what you know from the certificates with what the information you find in the census records. So don't worry about any anomalies you may have found right now just make a note of them and see if they can be sorted out by studying the census records next. To start looking at these records, you will need to have an idea of where your where your ancestors were in 1911, which is the last census record we can look at at the moment because of the hundred year rule.

In 2021, we will be able to view the 1921 census Now if you still need a few certificates before you can get back to 1911, then please go ahead and get your certificates first in order to get that information. If, however, whether you've got your certificates or not, you do have information that will enable you to find your ancestors 1911 then do please plow on with the next section.
