So, the first thing I want to show you is the kind of sequence you want to be doing when you're tracing backwards through the parish registers. Now, when you're still in the period of the sentences, obviously, you'd be tracing back back to 1841. And you can usually get a good idea of the birth of the children of any particular couple. And in that case, with the census, you can see more or less the eldest child and then that will give you a good idea for the marriage of the parents. Now, of course, when you get beyond the census back to the parish registers before 1841 when you don't have that information then You, you want to go on a hunt for all the other children so that you can get a good idea of the marriage of the parents. Let me just give you show you what I mean.

So we're going to look for an ancestor of mine called William stamper, who was born in about 1715 in new Morton in Yorkshire. There we go. So let's just do a quick search. So there we are. We don't have an original register here. So it's, it's obviously an idi entry, as we've talked about before, and as you can see here, the Father's name is Robert stamper.

Unfortunately, in this case, the mother's name isn't given and that is often the case with earlier parish registers. Sometimes they just give the Father's name so What we want to do then because we have no people have very large families, then in 1715, William could have been the youngest child or you could be the oldest child. So that gives us really, possibly a good 20 years sometimes people are having children. So we don't know whether his parents were married just before he was born, or 10 or 20 years before he was born. So we need to look for the other children. So let's go back so let's go and do a marriage so it's way in STEM for 750 1715.

So if you look for the children will just put in the surname. Now, I'm going to put in 750 1715 that I mentioned earlier, I find very annoying, the ancestry only gives you 10 years either way, because if he was the last child I would it could be the marriage could have been way before that. So we'll start with this and we'll put in new Moulton mostly people stayed in one place, I mean, you will find often couples moving around usually very much within the same area. So we know the Father's name. Now, sometimes names can be abbreviated. So I'm not always sure whether to click on accept or not, if it's just, you know, it might come up as our Oh bt.

But if you don't press Accept, of course, there might be other names so you have to be careful. But let's just see what comes up with that. So there's William again, and you will see here, it's just hover over here, Christopher. stamper. 17 All right, so that's an earlier child. Rob.

Father Robert, can you Moulton that definitely looks like a brother. And then an earlier 117 oh seven a Mary stamper. And also, there's a john stamp there that looks like about it. So we've got another one there, Sarah. Light to 117. No, no, just before 17 but that's a different standards and see the Father's name there is Thomas.

And that's because we didn't click on except on the Robert. So as I say, you have to be careful and check all these. So we've got I mean, obviously you'd be making a note of all the siblings names to put on your tree. The earliest one here is 1707. So we probably just want to go a bit further back. So let's go go back Another 10 years to be absolutely on the safe side.

Let's see what comes up. So we've got 1697 and then we got robots damper. So that wouldn't have come up if I've clicked on except so you know, that's that's interesting. 1697 1704 and 1695. No, that's not that's not the same person because that's another Thomas stamper father. So we've got so you just have to be careful here.

Check them all. So I think the earliest we've got them is an stamper in 1697. So it looks as though the marriage for Robert is going to be probably around 1695. So now We can do a search for his marriage. Let's take all these birth details out. And we go to marriage.

So let's just be on the safe side, we'll say 16 1690. What was the first 10 or 1697. So let's say 16. So 1694, four, and then do five years. Either way. You will find quite often that first children sometimes born are before the marriage.

So just as well to search for a marriage, not just up until the first child. And secondly, Moulton and we'll leave we won't put exact in there because it's always possible they were married another place nearby. We have one father in there. Unfortunately, we don't know the name of the mother. So we'll have to leave that blank. But if you did have the name of the mother, obviously you would put that in there.

So let's have a look. And there we are. It's the only one that comes up for that time scale in new Moulton. And they have Roberts wife, Grace, Gresham. Okay, so that is much is much better. For one, you've got all the names of the siblings on your tree, which not only helps with finding the date of the parents marriage, but also siblings can be really really useful in identifying ancestors when there's more than one person that same name because because of naming patterns very often, generation to generation people named their children After their parents are to their grandparents after their own siblings so you so knowing the siblings names can really help with identification further down the line.
