Now before we go on and do the other marriage search on ancestry, I just wanted to have a quick look here at my family cheat page on my family tree software. Now, this is the page for the couple that I'm going to be searching for. Obviously, I've already got all their details. And when we do the search, we're gonna sort of pretend that I don't have all these details. But the reason I wanted to have a quick look at this, so that you can see the importance of getting all the details of the children first. As you can see, my grandfather is down here.
Walter bought and he was born in 1884. And he was six of these seven children. If we only looked was interested in his birth and didn't have that here, then you wouldn't really have a very good idea of when the marriage might have taken place of his parents. So it's very important. And as you'll be going along, you'll be looking for your marriages and certificates alongside looking at the census which we're going to be looking at in the next section. So from the census, you will probably have an idea of the children have a cup Colin and the dates or approximate dates when they were born.
So this first child, the data, this first chart is very important in looking for the date of a marriage. So we've got here 1876 so we know that probably the marriage was going to be Probably between about 1874 and 1876, maybe a little bit before maybe a little bit after. So we put our search range within a good parameter there. Now, something else you might have noticed if you're very observant is that the first child was born in Birmingham, and all the other children were born in Lancashire. So that's something else you ought to be aware of when you get these details, or before looking for a marriage, because if we'd only looked at Walter, then we might be thinking the marriage took place in Manchester. But because we know that the very first child was born in Birmingham, we might look for a marriage in Birmingham.
But wait, look at the birthplace of the mother. She was born in Yorkshire and we know that That, very often, marriages took place in the parish of the woman. So we would then be thinking, well, we're about did they get married. So when we do our search, we might leave the place open and just see what comes up. Or if it was difficult, we might first look in Birmingham and then you're looking in Yorkshire. Now you can see I've got the details here, and they actually did marry in Yorkshire.
But I'm just showing you this page, so that you can see, it's very, very important that you when you're looking at documents, and you're doing searches that you take into account the details you have from all the other documents that you've already looked at so that you can double check all the documents against each other so that you have got the right people
