Hello, and welcome to section two of tracing your ancestors in the UK for beginners. In this section, we are going to be preparing the ground field search by finding out what information you already have or have access to. In genealogy, it is very important that we start with what we already know and work backwards. It seriously doesn't work the other way. If you are trying, for example, to find a link to a famous person, you don't start with that famous person and try and work forwards. It just won't work that way.
So to repeat in genealogy, we start with what we know and work backwards. So that is why in this section, we're going to start with exactly that. We're going to start with what you already know. And what's your current family all Ready knows. Once you've gathered as much information as you can from your current family, you'll know exactly where you need to start your research. We'll also be seeing if we can dig out any old photographs and see how useful they can be in genealogy.
And lastly, I'll be showing you how to draw up a simple family tree with the pedigree chart. You'll be adding to things later on. Once we finish this section, you'll be all ready to start your serious research. Have fun
