In Krita, the freehand Brush Tool is not the only tool that uses the brush settings to draw on the canvas. There are other tools that actually use the brush settings. They are these tools in here, the line tool, rectangle, tool, Ellipse tool, Polygon tool, and finally the polyline tool. Now these tools in here are also used the brush settings, but mostly these tools require more practice to use it. So we will discuss this later in the more advanced section. Let's see what we can do with the line tool.

Basically, we use the line tool to create lines. But what makes the line tool unique, at least compared to similar tool in other graphic software is that it can read the pen pressure. Of course, you need to use the correct brush, which read the pen pressure. For example, let's say we choose this basic brush. This brush size will get thicker. As we press harder with a pen.

We can tell this right away by looking at the brush icon, we can see this tick line become thinner. The last thing you need to make sure is in the line tool options. If you have the line tool selected in the Tool Options, Docker, you need to have this use sensors option turned on. Okay, let's choose red color for now. Now if we press and drag like this, and then release in here, Krita will create a line from where we initially press until where we release it. Notice if I press and drag again, but in the process, I do different pressure strength along the way, we get something like this.

If you're just using your mouse, the line tool will produce uniform brush size using its maximum size. Okay. Now, what if we want to create straight vertical horizontal Or 45 degree diagonal lines. For this, we can use the shift modifier key, but we need to hold the shift key after we press and while we are reading the pen or the mouse around. If we hold the shift key before we press the pen, it won't work. So for example, press first the pen and while we drag like this hold shift.

As you can see, we are snapping to 15 degree increments. This way, we can easily make perfect vertical or horizontal lines or any other diagonal line angles based on 15 degree increments. Okay, the last technique I want to mention with the line tool is moving the line while in the process of creating it. We can use the alt modifier key for this. For example, we can press and drag like this. But if at this stage, we change our mind, we want to move this line to other location without releasing the pen or the mouse, hold the Alt key and just move it to somewhere else, then previous to confirm the line creation.

So again, you can use the alt modifier key to move the line while we are creating it. Next is the rectangle and the Ellipse tool. Why are we discussing these two tools together? Because most of the control are the same. The only difference is just the shape of them. Okay.

Basically, we can use Rectangle tool to draw rectangular shapes. The border line of the rectangle shape will use the brush setting. For example, if we select this pencil brush and select blue for the foreground color. Now, before we continue, open the tool options Docker first and make sure this pulled down list in here is set to not feel we will discuss about this later. Okay, now when we press and drag, we get something like this. Okay, the Ellipse tool can be used to draw circular shapes, the process is the same, just press and drag on a canvas to draw a circle or shape.

Okay. There are several ways to control how the shape looks using the modifier keys. And this is true for both Rectangle tool and the Ellipse tool. First is the shift key modifier. We can use the shift key to make a perfect square or a perfect circle. To do that, when we press and drag to create the shape, do not release the mouse or your pen yet, while in this condition, press and hold the shift key.

Notice the shape become a perfect square, meaning the width and the height of it are at the same length. Remember You need to press the Shift key when you are bragging not before. Okay, next is the Ctrl key modifier. the Ctrl key will make the size changes happen on all direction to show you what I mean. If I click drag like this, we don't releasing the mouse, we can see the size is changing using the initial point as the pivot or the center. In this condition, if we hold the Ctrl key, notice the pivot point of the size changes is now at the center.

Okay, now we can actually combine a shift and Ctrl key together as needed. For example, let's say you want to create a perfect circle and the center of that circle is this point. To do that, select the Ellipse tool, then move your mouse on that location, press and hold, then hold ctrl key and then shift and then drag after we like the size of it. Release the mouse or your pen. Okay, so you can see how powerful and important it is to use the modifier keys. The last modifier key is alt, just like the Alt key in the line to creation, we can use the Alt key also in rectangle and ellipse tools to move the shape creation to different locations.

For example, if I click drag like this without releasing the mouse, then press and hold the Alt key, we can move the shape to other location. If we release the Alt key, we can still continue the shape creation process. If all of these modifier keys are too hard for you to perform, trust me, you just need some practices. After a lot of practices, they will be in your muscle memory. So you'll be able to do this thing even without thinking about it in sha Allah. Using this modifier keys, not only works for drawing shapes, but also useful for creating selections, which we are going to cover in much later video.

Okay, now what makes the rectangle and the ellipse tools different from the line tool is their ability to fill the shape region. If we select either the rectangle or the ellipse tools, and then open the tool options, Docker, we will see this fill option which is set to not fail by default. If you click on it, and change it to background color, for example, and use yellow for a background color. As a reminder, you need to right click on the color picker to change the background color. Right click and drag to change the color wheel and right click and drag on the center area. Okay, so we have a blue photo foreground color and we have yellow for the background color.

When we press and drag like this, we get borderline just like before But we also have fill color inside it, we just using the current background color. Okay? Now, if we click this fill pulldown list beside background color, we have foreground color, which I think is very obvious. What we haven't discussed is this pattern. We are going to discuss pattern more in depth in the intermediate section. But for now, just for quick explanation, you can pick any pattern that you like from this pattern selection up here.

Let's pick this one for example. Now, if we press and drag like this, the inner area is filled with the active pattern we selected before. Okay. The last tools we are going to discuss is the polygon and the polyline tools. Mostly these two tools are the same except with several differences. Both of these tools will create the freeform polygonal shapes to use it Simply click release, then click release, then click release and so on.

To finalize the creation process. There are four alternative methods. To do this, you can click on the initial point so it makes a loop. Another way to finalize the creation process is by double clicking or you can also press Enter. And finally, you can also hold the shift key modifier and then click. Now if you are using a drawing pen, you might want to avoid double clicking and pressing Enter.

Holding Shift and clicking is easier to perform. Therefore, it is my favorite method when using a drawing tablet. Okay, what makes these two tools different are the auto loop. Notice if I use the polygon tool, and then hold SHIFT and click to finalize, it will make a loop automatically so Initially, the result is always a closed path. But with the polyline tool, this is not the case. If we create a path and then shift click it will not auto loop the path.

You can make loop or closed path with polyline tool, but you have to create it manually by clicking on the initial point.
