So in this video i compelled some frequently asked questions from DJs and friends and thought it'd be fun to shed some wisdom on people new to the art of DJing. So the first question I often get is do DJs pre record their sets? No, we don't pre record our sets. First of all, there's no fun in that. And second of all, you need to be constantly on your toes, and watching the room and the dance floor to see what's working. What's not.
If you were playing a mix and something wasn't working, and the room was clearing out, you would have to do something really quickly to switch it up. And like I said, it's no fun. It's way more fun to freestyle and mix on how to send a proper email or demo track. So always make it personal. You know, send it to only one person, the person you intended for, use their name. Always Introduce yourself.
I always start my emails by Hey, blank. I'm introducing myself as Andrew pillows, rapper blah, blah, blah, speak a little about yourself, but keep it short and sweet. And then get to the point How to spin a proper opening set. So, do your research on the artist that you're opening for play at a slower tempo than them and make sure you don't play any of their original productions or anything that they would play in their set like a hit or a popular track. The whole goal and opening is to not out shine the main act. How to build your brand and get gigs?
Well, it's really important to invest in yourself I find it really matters to have locals visuals, a website, make sure your socials SoundCloud, Instagram, all these are on point because people really pay attention to that and it really goes a long way trust me how to release your music independently. So if you're a producer, there's a lot of ways you can put your music out there independently on all the digital outlets know everything from Shazam, to iTunes and Spotify. There's sites like distro kid where you pay a yearly plan. I think it's something like $30 at the moment There's tunecore. And I believe those are $12, a single something like that, how to get booked in a club. So nightclubs are, of course a business run on profit.
So you need to be bringing something to the table as well. Sure you can be a great DJ. But like I said, boosting sales would be a really great selling point for you. So if you have some friends birthdays coming up, maybe ask them if they want to do it at soul and soul club and then you can approach them and kind of collaborate together and that would be a great way for you to be bringing people and also DJ for them and make sure everyone's happy and has a good time.
