In this video, we are going to discuss how to create the loop entering selection. In a previous video, we learned how to create selections using lasso box and circle methods. Those methods are available both in the object mode and in the edit mode. What we are going to cover in this video only works in the edit mode, they will not be available in the object mode. Let's create a UV sphere. Press s to scale, then type three to make it three times bigger Ctrl A and apply the scale.

Let me bring this up a bit so it doesn't penetrate the ground floor and then go to the read mode. Make sure we are in the age mode for now. To create a loop selection you need to press out and then click on an age. For example this age. Notice all of the ages connected to this age will get selected in terms of 3d modeling these connected For ages are usually called the H loop or simply the loop. So again, to select an H loop, we can hold out and then click on an age to create the selection.

Next is a ring selection. Now ring selection is almost like the loop selection, but instead of selecting connected serial ages bring selection we'll select parallel ages. To create a ring selection, we can press and hold the Alt key and control key together and then click on an age. As we can see, the ages that gets selected are this way instead of this way, again, during selection will be parallel ages and the loop selection will be exterior ages. One thing that you need to remember when doing loop ordering selection is that they can only work if the polygons or the faces are all quads. What quad means is that each of these phases has four sides.

Or agents around them. If you have a face that is a triangle or has five sides or more when you do loop or ring selection, the selection will stop at that location. So yes, in CG the ideal 3d model is the one that has all of its faces formed by for ages are also known as quad polygons. Sometimes we want to select multiple loop or ring, we can do this easily with the help of the shift key modifier. For example, let's make this a loop. Press and hold out then click on this age.

Now we want to select this age loop also above it, we can hold out then shift then click on the stage. So we now have two age loops selected. If we want to select another age loop, just do the same process as before, hold out then shift then click on his age for example. We now have three loops. selected, we can also use the shift key modifier for adding more range selection. To show you how it is done, press out a first to deselect everything.

Next, hold CTRL and out and click to select this H ring. To add more edge ring selection, we can hold shift and Ctrl and Alt key together and then click on this age and another one like this. The shift key method can also be used to reduce the selection so it actually works like a toggle function. For example, let's press on a again to remove all of the selection. Then hold out and click here to select the H loop. Then press Shift and Alt and click to select this H loop and this H loop Okay, now notice when I hold the Shift and out and click on the selected h loop, they will get d selected.

If you click again they will get selected again. It also works with during selection But I'm sure you get the idea here. Until now, you might be wondering is loop and ring selection only works in each mode, what what vertex in face mode, well loop and ring also work in the vertex and face mode, but they behave a bit different. Let's see how it is done in a vertex mode first. So go to the vertex mode by pressing one on the keyboard. If you hold out and then click on this age, you will get this loop selection but in a form of vertex selection.

Now you must remember, although we are in a vertex mode, and of course, we can only select vertices in Vertex mode. But to select a loop, we need to click on an age not on the vertex, very important to remember. So for example, I want to select this loop up here, hold out and click on his age, not on the vertex, because if you try to select on the vertex Blender will determine the closest Age of where you click, so you might accidentally select this age instead. You can also do a ring selection in a vertex mode using the control and out and click method. The same rule applies here, you need to click on the age not the vertex. Okay, now what about the face mode?

Well in face mode, basically the concept is the same, it just that interface mode, there is no such thing as loop and ring selection as they are both the same thing for faces. Let me show you what I mean. If you go to the face mode, hold out and click on this age, we get this face look selection. Again, just like before, you need to click on the age not on the face center. So for example, we want to select a face look this way vertically, hold the Alt key, move your mouse over this age, then click to select the whole face loop. Now if you use the selection method and that is by holding CTRL and Alt key together and then click on this age for example, you will get the same result as using only the Alt key.

So again To recap, in the face mode, there is no difference between holding out versus holding CTRL and Alt key to do a selection, they both produce the same result. Okay, so just use only the Alt key in the face mode for convenient
