In this lesson video, we are going to discuss about how to hide and show objects in the scene. Then we are also going to discuss about the local view. First, let's discuss how we can hide and show objects in blender. When you are working on a complex scene, it will be very hard if you want to focus your work only on a specific object, because that object might have been covered or overlapped with other objects. So that is why it is important to be able to hide and show objects in a scene. in Blender we can hide and show objects using different methods.
First is using the Outliner second using the keyboard shortcuts. And finally using the menu, there are actually more methods on how to manage objects visibility in blender, such as using collection and or sin, but for now, we will focus only on hiding and showing objects and also how to use the local View Okay, so to show and hide objects using the Outliner, simply look at the object in the Outliner and just click on the eye symbol at the right side to hide that object. For example, if I click on the eye symbol of the cube object, that cube object will be hidden, you can see the eye symbol is closed. Okay, to show it back, just click again on the eye symbol. Now the object is shown again and the eye symbol is open again. The next method of showing and hiding objects in blender is through the keyboard shortcuts.
For example, if we have this cube selected, to hide the cube object, we can press h in the keyboard. Notice by pressing h the selected object which is the cube will be hidden, we can see the eye symbol in the Outliner is closed also, to show all hidden objects in the scene, we can press ALT H. Now we can See the cube again. The last keyboard shortcut we are going to discuss is shift H. Basically, it will hide everything except the selected objects. So for example, if we have this cube object selected, pressing Shift h will make the light and the camera objects become hidden, but the cube object still visible. To show all of them, we can press out h again. Now if you ever forget the shortcuts, we can use the last method which is using the menu.
To access the hide and show commands, we can go to the Object menu in a 3d viewport header, and then choose Show hide sub menu in here, you can see all of the commands we have used before listed here, Show Hidden objects, hide selected objects, and finally hide unselected objects. Now let's talk about the local have your feature in blender. When working with complex scenes, sometimes we want to focus on certain objects and just want to hide the rest, you might be thinking, Okay, so this is like hiding objects. Well, yes, but it is a bit different. If you use other 3d software before, this mode is often called isolation mode. Essentially, in this mode, you only see the object you want to work on and make the rest of the objects hidden.
In Blender However, this isolation mode is called the local view mode. To access it, first, we need to select an object, then press the forward slash key in the number pad, or the forward slash key in the letter pad area. By doing this, the viewport will zoom in to the selected object. And we can see up here in the viewport, there is a text that says local. Now notice when we rotate the viewport around, we don't see any other objects except this cube object or In the Outliner, we can see that all of the objects are actually not hidden. After you are finished working with this object, you can go back to the global view mode by pressing the forward slash key again in the keyboard.
Now the local tax is gone, and we can see all of the objects again, just like before.
