The first p in the five PS is panic. That's not an instruction. However, it is a very common reaction when people think about public speaking. Is this you? Do you feel nervous when you think about speaking, if it's not you, then don't feel you have to carry on with it, you can jump off and start on purpose. However, if you do feel nervous, I want you to know that it's a perfectly natural reaction to have.
I go into more depth about this on I prepare about why we feel so nervous. But let's just take it for now that you do. This is possibly my favorite fact on Wikipedia. Do you know about the fight and flight response? So the feelings of adrenaline that you're getting in your body are to do with either fight or flight? You'll be familiar with that very well.
Do you know what the opposite to fight or flight is? bead and breed. Love that. So the theory here is that we can't eat or, you know the other thing when we're feeling under threat. Yeah. So a really quick tip when you're feeling panic is to choose IE to stimulate eating because when we eat, we release the right hormones that make us feel calm.
And that means we're not under threat, and we can relax. So just try it now with me just to speak to you. Or you can chew gum just before you're about to go on stage. So that's my quick tip for you on panic. And don't forget, there's a lot more on this in I prepare. So if you're feeling nervous, then do go over there and make sure that you work on this so that it never has to trouble you again.
