DESCRIPTION: It is often debated whether risk management for travel falls within the parameters of the travel portfolio or whether it lies entirely with the risk management team. This confusion comes in where travel managers consider it to be out of their realm of expertise and expect risk management to take the lead. The risk management team however expects the responsibility and accountability to lie with the travel manager.
Some companies think it falls within the responsibilities of the travel management companies. It doesn’t. This is an internal process and it must be made clear by the TMC that this is a role they cannot take on. They can discuss best practices in the industry for travel risk management, but it is a client company responsibility.
