DESCRIPTION: A &ldquo;special needs&rdquo; traveller is any traveller who may require special assistance, equipment or guidance for their trip. These would include blind or deaf travellers, travellers who require physical support and assistance, or emotional support.
Again it must be emphasised how strong the bond must be between traveller and risk manager so that it can be easily recognised when travellers require emotional support due to an illness or traumatic event, as travellers are far less likely to openly seek assistance in this area. Unless the risk manager is
a qualified counsellor or psychologist it is not permitted for them to render support services to their travellers themselves. They must refer the traveller to a professional practitioner, however, must be advised by the risk manager that such costs can be covered by the organisation and that the matter will be dealt with in the strictest confidence.
