New marketing mindset. So much of your marketing success depends on being in the right frame of mind to take action, uncover the mindset things holding you back, and learn how to change them in this class. mindset is likely a term you've come across before, but I can't say that I'm a fan of it. It suggests that our mind is set that it's rigid that it's fixed. Instead, I like to use the word mind settings is simply our current settings, much like an air conditioning system has, that we're free to change at any time. Of course, some settings take a bit more time and energy to change than others.

But I'm a firm believer in your ability to make that change. What mind settings Do you want to change? The first step is taking stock of what your current mind settings up. These are comprised of messages, beliefs, biases, and judgments that we've been collecting since we were kids. We picked them have our family, friends, teachers to television. We pick them up in books, podcasts and experiences we've had both pleasurable and uncomfortable.

Now some of us will be healthy, some of them will be helping us and some will be hindering us. Even though at one point in time they formed because our mind was doing its best to make sense of the world and operate as best we couldn't. Common unhelpful mind settings can be categorized in the following ways. One, fear of failure. We start our lives by doing a lot of failing. A baby's first steps come out of a jumble of stumbles and falls or fails.

But that doesn't put baby off no one that reprimands the baby for falling. We know it's part of the process. But somewhere in our journey, we learn that failing is to be avoided. For most experiencing the fear of failure might bring up memories about school. We knew that success meant getting lots of answers right on the test and family meant getting lots of answers wrong. We tried some harder than others not to fail.

Failure meant disapproval and sometimes punishment. Whilst a fear of failure can be helpful in motivating us towards doing our best and learning and growing an extreme fear of failure, when it crosses the line to phobia is crippling. This is when we allow our fears to stop us from doing something altogether, so that neither success nor failure can be risked. You might have experienced this level of fear if you're reluctant to try something new, even if past few wants to you sabotage projects when you start, for example, through procrastination or following, not following through with certain goals. You commonly speak to yourself using critical statements such as, I'll never be good enough to get that job or I'm not good enough to publish my work. You're only willing to try it things that you know you'll finish perfectly and successful.

Overcoming fear of failure means taking action in the face of risking failure. It's acknowledging that we can't guarantee our desired outcome, but that it's better to have tried and failed than to have never tried at all. The next fear that comes away once we've taken up our challenge is to fear of judgment. At the core of social anxiety is fear of judgment. This can range from the slight knee knocking nerves before going into a networking event, to the trauma of a panic attack. Millions of people all around the world suffer from this devastating and traumatic problem every day, either from a specific social phobia, or from a more generalized social phobia.

So if this you know that you're not alone, experiences that are particularly triggering to our fear of judgment being introduced to new people, being teased or criticized, being the center of attention being watched while doing something Once we've overcome our fear of judgment and start to consistently move forward, in the face of critics, both internal and external, we might just have something we're proud of something we value. That's when our third fear raises its head, as we risk losing what we've risked so much to build fear of loss. From big life altering decisions, like leaving a job or a partner to smaller daily quandary is fear of loss is often there, lurking in the background and preparing the path for us to feel uncertain about our choices and actions. If I do this, Will I lose that opportunity? If I say that, Will I lose their respect?

If I say no, Will I lose my security? It may come as no surprise that the psychological impact of losing is thought to be twice as powerful as the pleasure of gaining because of this negativity bias. We're at risk of making poor decisions based on the weighty impacts of our fear of loss. You might have experienced fear of loss and acted on it by buying things you don't need, or groupons you never use because the sales and things in kept a gym membership you weren't using just in case you won't be able to get that same rate again. Turn down opportunities that could be rewarding to avoid the risk of losing something else. Refuse to invest in yourself because it feels painful to part with your money.

Fear of loss can be overcome once we acknowledge that with every loss comes opportunity for new starts, growth and change, which is all good and well, until we realize that actually, change can be rather scary. And so the fear of change. I'm not afraid of change I spouted triumphantly before my sister pointed out several times when I've explicitly demonstrated my fear of change. My confusion was simple. I wasn't scared of changes I could control. It was the change that occurs regardless of my will that I feared It's understandable.

Like all these ways, we make sense of the world by spotting patterns and making predictions. It's a pretty neat little feature of the brain. But when something changes, and we are missing the information we've become so accustomed to relying on, we panic. What we fear is not being able to cope with the change, something new doesn't present itself as an opportunity to explore and learn. Instead, it looks threatening to our safety. Fear of change often follows from overcoming our fear of loss, making a decision that leads to an upheaval in our lives and panicking.

At this point, we often get struck with our next fear, fear of success. The sense that if we get to a point of contentedness when we're flying high and all our dreams are coming true, that the other shoe is going to drop, and that's likely quite familiar to most of us. It's the child who drops her ice cream cone just before taking the first look. It's the lesson we're told by Well meaning parents that don't get your hopes up too high. So we learn to stay down where it's safe. Things we tell ourselves when we're feeling fear of success, that I won't be able to cope with the pressure.

That if I'm successful people think I'm selling out. Hope become a jerk if I get too successful. in overcoming these concerns and achieving what we deem is success, we move on to our next challenge. And no doubt, with it comes the fear of failure, and we complete the cycle and return to fair one. I'm not going to tell you that all you need to do is face your fears and they'll go away. I know that these fears have built up over time, and I won't pretend they'll vanish completely overnight.

Going forward though, you'll be armed with more understanding acceptance and strategies. You can use it to gradually ease those fears and eventually, change your mind settings. I love this quote from john Kabat Zinn, you can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf. If however, you're really struggling with any of these fears, I strongly recommend seeking out a therapist who understands what you're going through. And yes, I guarantee they're out there. Cognitive behavioral therapy, or CBT is particularly well researched and proven to help with these kinds of anxiety disorders.
