Classes represent programming units that contain variables to store values and contain functions to do operations (calculations) on these variables.
This concept is known as Object Oriented Programming and is a very powerful concept. It allows these programming units to be used over again in other programs. The main benefit of a class is to store values and do operations on them transparently from the user of the class. It is very convenient for programmers to use classes. They are like building blocks that allow one to create many sophisticated programs with little effort.
