About the Class

If you have ever worked on a failing project, this course will arm you with tools and techniques to avoid future projects failing. Even if you have not been involved in a failing project, this course teaches what to look out for to avoid failure and how to build robustness into a project from the very beginning.

The course modules:

  • Introduction to the Course: This section provides the background of the course and a summary of the course content and modules.
  • Where to Start: Where do we start to investigate why a project is failing and how do we start? This module discusses the questions to ask, the wording to use, and how to kick off a comprehensive investigation to gather all the evidence needed.
  • Root Cause: Once the evidence has been gathered, what is it telling us, how should it be interpreted and what does it lead us to conclude. The objective here is to understand what went wrong, how it happened, and why it happened.
  • Re-Planning for Success: With the root cause and problem statement in hand, and lessons learned, we can re-plan for success. Changes to the team, plan, and strategy are needed.
  • Kick Start the Project: This section discusses how to strategically kick off the project to avoid a recurrence of the previous issues and ensure success.
  • Run the Project: How will we run the project and monitor progress to ensure we don't fail again? We walk through this proven process for running projects and responding effectively to any potential issues before they become problems.
  • Course Summary: This section reviews the course modules and provides some key advice.
