Hello, welcome back to DIY mindfulness. We're already up to section five beliefs. So in this section, you're going to grasp why it's important to look at your beliefs. And you're going to start to uncover beliefs that don't support the life. You want to live. This is all about you.

Do it yourself, mindfulness, DIY mindfulness, because only you have the power to transform you. The more you practice, the better you get, the more you'll learn to trust yourself. It's so exciting when you start to see the results of being grounded. The results of really watching what you say and looking at what you're affirming for your life. And so beliefs I think, go hand in hand with affirmation. So I love talking about this.

So let's just hop right in what is a belief? You know, we've all heard what's ugly. Belief is something that you accept is true, or think exists. It could be a statement, an idea, a principle or thing. It is trust. They are confidence in someone or something.

So what are some things that you believe whether proven or unproven? So remember, a belief is not about something scientific, or something that is necessarily, like tangible that you can hold. We have all sorts of beliefs that impact our lives. So here are some things that I believe I believe people are fundamentally good. I believe that a significant purpose here on earth that only I can fulfill, and I believe you have a purpose here that only you can. Yeah, that sounds all great.

You know what, let's be honest. I still have some unsupportive beliefs. So I still believe sometimes personal growth can be a long process. I still believe that you know, sometimes I don't have enough time or money doesn't grow on trees. And we're going to talk about, like how this comes up in my life. So that I see that Oh, God.

Yeah, that's that's still there, even though I think, admittedly, but do you believe life is hard? We'll never have enough money or find the perfect mate. Why is it important to look at your boobs? Like, why do you think we're even talking about this? Hmm. Because what you believe creates your life, your experience, everything, what you truly believe is being reflected back to you and they're back to you from the world.

So your life is an accumulation of your beliefs. I love this picture. Look at this picture. So this is a giant iceberg. But what do you notice about the beliefs and about the behavior If you look really closer, you have to look that close look at I would say, God, maybe three quarters of this iceberg is underwater hidden. Whereas only a quarter, maybe even eight is above water to our behavior.

So we've got the beliefs that are like hidden down there. And then we have this behavior. So the behavior is just an outworking of our beliefs and we can see certain behaviors, but look at how powerful Look how much space, our beliefs are really taking up. So do your beliefs support why you want to live my mass? Well, look around you. Are you happy and fulfilled?

Are you peaceful and joyful? Are you stressed and unhappy? friendless lonely when Remember the quality and content of your life is reflected back to you through your life experiences. So oftentimes we're unconscious about our beliefs. But once you start identifying and taking responsibility for what you truly believe, you take responsibility for your life. The assemblies are easy to change, like maybe you think you don't like brussel sprouts, and then you taste brussel sprouts like I did, and like, Oh my god, I love these things.

And that was because you know, I had brussel sprouts, it'll probably always canned or frozen, which is very different from fresh. That was kind of easy. My friends didn't know you haven't had my brussel sprouts. I pasted them. I love them now. So that's kind of easy to pinpoint, but some beliefs are hidden and difficult to uncover.

So remember that I looked at that iceberg again. So we have this giant iceberg and we think that we're all about our behaviors, but really what's underneath are these hidden unconscious beliefs. So what are some Some things that you hear over and over about the world or about yourself. So remember, like, a couple minutes ago, I said, I still believe that that summation can be a long process. Well, I didn't really think I still believe that. But remember, we're talking about what do we hear around us?

What are we seeing around us? So I was talking to a friend, and she was talking about, like, she's addicted to coffee pretty much, but she's also having some other health issues, and the coffee is, like really kind of bad for her health. And so she's talking and going on and on, and I'm thinking, you know, well, you know, why don't you just stop? And she's like, Well, you know, it's a long process. And I said, Well, if you say so, and she's like, no, it's a long process, and it's mitigated. So, you know, I walked away thinking, Well, you know, is it really that difficult to give up something that's harmful for you?

And what you know, a couple of days later, I was still Talking to probably my husband. And I was saying something about changing a behavior. And I found myself saying, well, it's a long process, the exact words that she had said that I found annoying. But that's how we start really finding out what's inside of us by those things that other people are saying. So there's still part of me that thinks, giving up something that's harmful, or transformation is a long process. But do your beliefs support the life you want to live?

So what are your thoughts about aging? Are you thoughts like the couple in the wheelchair was a couple on the bicycles? So for me, I know there are certain societal expectations about aging, that I have to be very mindful of, so that I have a different experience. So do you catch yourself thinking or saying things like, Well, you know, I'm too old to do that. Expecting and even willing, you're body to falter based on your age. That's why we're talking about this up.

What's what's down there? I have people that are younger than me saying they can't ice skate or they can't do other things because they're too old. So if you believe that, then what does your body do your body, just the thoughts and the words and talking about affirmations. You're creating your life by what you're saying you're thinking. So if you think you are too old to do X, Y, and Z, then you're going to look like the picture of a couple in the wheelchair. If you start affirming your health and well being, then you know, I know for me personally, I want to be a person on devices.

So come on, what did you hear growing up? There are things I accepted as true that imprinted on me that unconsciously affected my behavior. So remember, we said, look at iceberg, we have the beliefs and then we have the behavior. So One thing I heard quite a bit money doesn't grow on trees. Money is hard to get I must hold tight with the money I do have. So that was like literally imprinted.

So I have to make a conscious effort to, to like, recognize one that I'm even thinking that and then shift it to start affirming something different for myself to start forgiving and uncovering those beliefs because they are imprinted so deeply that I don't even realize that they're impacting me somehow. Okay, so, you know, don't laugh at me. But one thing I've heard, if I go to bed with wet hair, I'll catch a cold. So that was like, you know, I never questioned it. If I go to bed with wet hair, I'll catch a cold. Well, that was imprinted as a true belief for me until I was traveling one day and I hooked up with a mom and her daughter and we ended up sharing a room we were down in Costa Rica.

And the girl I was was a young, a young woman, probably, I think dinner at night. She washed her hair before going to bed and I was thinking, Oh my gosh, if she washes her hair, she's gonna. I didn't know them. So I didn't say anything. And you know what? She woke up the next morning, perfectly fine.

So that was a belief that I have. But when I experienced something different, I was like, well, maybe that's not true. My daughter goes to bed with wet hair. He's fine. So there are certain things that we don't even question that we believe that we just accept it as true. And as we start being scientific about our lives, we can start uncovering it.

Okay, so don't lie. Like I said, I'm like, I'm being honest, I'm sharing. Because if I have some of these beliefs, maybe you do too, or maybe yours are different. So I also heard, if I go barefoot in the rain, I'll get sick. So maybe if I go barefoot in the rain, and it 20 degrees. But you know, what if I go barefoot in the rain and 80 degrees, am I going to get sick?

No. So I remember going to school, and I'd see these guys walking around in the rain with their shorts and their flip flops, you know, maybe sweatshirt and they were perfectly fine. So I had to start questioning that belief. I was like, Okay, that was maybe something that that doesn't hold up across the board. Like I said, maybe and 20 degree weather, you don't want to go barefoot, but if it's 80 degrees outside, so you want to start kind of dissecting, looking at your blue. Another thing I heard, life is hard, I have to work hard to get what I want.

So we're talking about this because these beliefs then dictate or create a certain type of behavior. So if I'm feeling like mine doesn't grow on trees and I'm like, always going to try to hold on to to you Not to be extravagant or not to even buy the little things that I want. So I'm unraveling these things that were imprinted on my brain. We're going to do the beliefs exercise. So I want you to identify belief that doesn't support you and be honest like I said, no one's looking at this No one's standing over your shoulder judging you. Be honest because the more you start uncovering these things that you believe that you don't even realize you believe them the more peace and freedom you have because now that I know I don't get a cold from you know, walking around barefoot or flip flops in the rain.

How much more freedom is that? How much more freedom do I have? I can wash my hair whenever I want. You know, so that's why we're even talking about this the scientific examine it will be on surface answers and ordinary responses. So I want you to actually pull out the beliefs exercise sheet to help you get started. So what I did was to start triggering some things I put together this exercise sheet for you to start answering questions.

You don't have to go through all of it but start being scientific. So let me go through them because i X number of years old I can't do because I'm blank years old I shouldn't wear I've heard people say oh, well you know she's too old to wear that. Hey look, once you get to a certain age, you can wear what ever you want because it's only someone else's judgments that are putting you in that box because I'm blinkers old. I should. Men are women are teenagers are all people are the government is you know, how many men do you see Oh, man, women only want me for my money. Women only want this oh man are dogs man aren't any good, you know?

So these are things that are like unconscious, that people don't realize that They're actually putting out into the world and then manifesting that for themselves. My kids are people who Blake shouldn't have kids. Once I had kids, I can't know how many times that he that, oh, once I have kids, I can't problem. Once I have kids, I can't do this. So then you're putting yourself in a box. I can't make a living doing what I love because work is marriages.

If I get married, I can't. My husband is my wife is my partner make it? occasion people are the bookseller, our immigrants are rich people are poor people are homeless people are, like, scares me. So just go through and pick out a few of these to just write down what your impressions are so that you can be that iceberg in your own life and start to uncover those beliefs that you may not even realize are there. But why don't you pause the video and do the Exercise, and then we're going to go on to the worksheet that I'm going to go on. So you can just pause it.

So the police worksheet plot your worksheet. So what beliefs were you able to uncover? I don't support you just work with one or two. I just said, Be honest, we're not trying to you know, it's not rocket science. We're not trying to change the world right now. But as you change yourself, and heal yourself and transform yourself, you are healing.

So it is as important as rocket science because we eat a little pebble each piece of the puzzle. And as I create more light and love for my look at the puzzle that does go out and change the world. So were you surprised by what came up? Did you know you felt that way about men about women or about your main or about getting married or about work? That's what's exciting. You start uncovering this and seeing what's really there then you'll start seeing like why your life looks like I want you to set an intention to leave the unsupportive police and foster beliefs that support your peace.

And you know that this worksheet so write down your thoughts with questions, and then go back over it. Take time with it. This is Do It Yourself mindfulness. This is not a race. There's no finish line. As long as you're on this earth, you're going to be constantly evolving to take your time.

So in the next section section, we're going to talk about blame versus responsibility for you on the other side,
