Transcript

Welcome to a practical guide to database design, where you will learn the fundamental concepts and benefits of using a relational database for solving data related business problems. My name is Richard Longworth, and I am thrilled that you have decided to take this course. I will be your guide and mentor and my hope is that you will find the presentation informative and the outcomes beneficial. I began my career as a programmer with Pratt and Whitney aircraft, later as a systems analyst with a National Telecommunications organization. Then eventually a university professor, where I taught courses in Information Systems, database design, and systems architecture. I have presented at will Congress delivered speeches at many national and international conferences, published two books, one two major awards for software development, and implemented countless business solutions with object oriented and relational databases.

I will be presenting this course based on 35 years of business experience, knowledgeable research and effective classroom teaching. I will walk you through the process step by step, provide a wide range of practical business examples and suggest alternate viable solutions for many problems sets. At the end, of course, you will be amazed at the depth of knowledge you've acquired and feel very competent in solving irksome data problems. There are no prerequisites for the course, but prior knowledge of programming information systems and a copy of Microsoft Access would enhance the learning
