To move a clip on your timeline, you just have to drag it to where you want. If you drag a clip over another, it will automatically add a transition. You can drag multiple clips, just select them holding the command button and drag them to the desired location. To delete the section, you can position the scrubber over the beginning of the section. Click on the scrubber button, move the scrubber over the end clip to split. Delete the section in between and then delete the Create gray area.

A quicker way to do it is to mark the input and the output of the clip and use the Ripple Delete as shown in the Ripple Delete video. An even quicker way when you want to delete the first or last part of the clip, is to move your mouse over that over the start or end of the clip until you see this icon and drag it to the desired location.
