Step eight reach requirements. Keeping your body in a neutral posture is so important because overreaching and twisting increases your risk of injury. If you have an L shaped or a U shaped work surface arrangement, maintain the work zones on each one. When you move between them, turn your chair and not your body. Place the items that you use frequently in your primary work zones. The upper level of this zone is that your heart and the lower level is at your waist.

The items you use occasionally or less frequently, are placed in your secondary work zones. The upper level of this zone is at your shoulders, and the lower level is at your fingertips when your hands are at your side at your desk, The primary zone would be located here and the secondary zone would be located here. To prevent additional twisting or reaching across your body. Place the items you use on the side that you use them. For example, if you hold the phone to your left ear, place the phone on your left and hold it with your left hand. If you reach for your pants or stapler with your right hand, put these objects on your right side.

If you have a component like a printer, but there is no room for it close by, don't stretch, move it far enough away so that you must get up from your desk to use it. This will also give you a little break away from your computer. Also, consider your work zones when you place items on a bookshelf or in a file cabinet. Place the most used items in your primary zone, and the less used items in your secondary zone. With heavier items place lower rather than higher. Height is also important when hanging bulletin boards or whiteboards.

Hang bulletin boards at a height where you can see the most viewed items easily without straining, or tilting your chin up or down. For example, if you have a bulletin board with phone numbers or other important information that you use regularly, while sitting down, position that board at the correct height from a sitting position. Reduce as much neck twisting as possible. Turn your chair if needed. Hang whiteboards at a height where you can right at the top of the board without overstretching. If This is a board you view often.

Hang it in a location that is easy to see while you're working. Again, turn your chair if necessary to avoid turning or twisting your body or neck
