Expanding Awareness:

Sit quietly in your preferred meditative posture, on a cushion, or in your chair, and begin to breathe in and out slowly two or three times after returning to your normal breath.
Now start to Listen attentively, to all the sounds around you noticing your surroundings. Be aware of how many sounds you hear right now, if you are outside listen for sounds of nature, you can listen for mechanical noises or the quietness of the space you are in. All places have nuances so listen carefully. Even the quiet places speak.
When you are comfortable where you are and have noticed what you have noticed, begin to slowly increase your awareness by expanding your senses to 20 feet further in every direction.
