The Bhagavad Gita and Buddhists Sutras, eastern philosophy texts, were translated into European languages and introduced to Western cultural intellectuals in the mid-18th century. 20th-century Yoga and meditation were introduced to the United States by Swami Vivekananda, popularized by Yogi and guru Yogananda.
