DESCRIPTION: The doppler effect is a phenomenon in which the perceived frequency of waves is altered due to motion of either the object emitting or receiving the wave. For example, an ambulance siren will appear higher in pitch as it approaches a stationary observer and lower in pitch once it passes due to a &lsquo;clumping&rsquo; and &lsquo;dispersion&rsquo; of sound waves in the observer&rsquo;s frame of reference (see Figure 1). They emit a sound and use the time delay of the sound bouncing off objects back to their ears to analyse their surroundings and hunt for prey. To study the behaviour of these bats in motion, they were placed on a swing and the following graph (figure 2)&emsp;was produced from the collected data.
