Hi Karen again from the photography playground. Welcome back. The main reason reputation photography is suitable for a smartphone camera is that it's such a non intrusive camera. Most people have no problem being photographed by a smartphone camera. It has a casual feel to it, and it will not interfere with what people are doing, even when you get very close to people. Every appetizer always tells a story and like every story, it has to have a beginning, middle and an end.
You also want to mix things up and take different perspectives of the event you're photographing different standpoints create diversity as well. Let's take a look at a repertory I made on the 25th of April in Lisbon. It is Liberation Day, Portugal celebrate the end of the dictatorship in the 70s. This year, the Prime Minister Antonia Kosta opened up the gardens of his official residence in Lisbon. I happened to be a neighbor of The Prime Minister, so I decided to take a look at micro sabotage about the celebration in the gardens. This is the beginning of the story in a wide perspective.
People are waiting in line to get into the gardens. The guards, gestures people to come inside in a medium perspective. The prime minister is being interviewed by the press, a high standpoint from the back. people sitting and talking and waiting for things to come in a medium perspective and a slightly high standpoint. A girl holding a carnation, the symbol of the revolution, in front of a field of carnations. A closer but I level, a lady resting in front of the carnations.
Notice he uses the rule of thirds, MN contributing to the communal work of art that is being created. A medium shot from the side. We are in the middle part of the story now. A close up at the back of a boy getting help with the spray painting from a high standpoint the guns scraping closer from a high standpoint, a girl having an introverted moment in the bustle around her close up at her eye level. Detail shot from a high standpoint of a carnation in a boy's pocket. Notice the separation.
The carnation stands out against the green grass. A close shot at the back of a girl spray painting from a low standpoint, wide angle shot at a distance and higher standpoint of the part of the garden where people are relaxing. A medium shot of a girl at a slightly higher standpoint. Notice the rule of thirds. A close shot at the back of a man and a woman working on the mosaic will another communal work of art. A close shot at the side of a boy working on the mosaic Well, a woman working on the mosaic will a close shot at the back at eye level.
The Prime Minister again contributing to the communal work of art medium shot at the side. We're approaching the end of our story The photo journalists behind the mosaic wall trying to get a clear view on the Prime Minister, a medium shot that decided I level, the symmetrical composition and the clear point of attention create harmony in this chaotic situation. And this is the end of the story, a man giving a speech, a symmetrical wide angle shot at the back, moving around and mixing it up is very important in repertory photography, as it's blending in anticipation and being open and receptive. See you in the next lecture and in the meantime, happy photographing
