Hi, welcome back, Karen here from the photography playground. Today we're going to tackle the dreaded manual mode, I can see why you might feel a little intimidated by manual mode because it's like flying solo, there is no correction from the camera, it's completely up to you. Luckily, you do have some instruments to guide you. For one, you have your screen where you can see the immediate outcome of your settings. And second, I can assure you in manual mode, the histogram will become your best friend. You should consider it as just another approach to getting your desired exposure.

Manual mode is not the holy grail, nor is it something you have to use all the time. But knowing your way around manual mode increases your options and your understanding of photography. We're also going into some strategies you can follow depending on what you determined to be the most important element in your image. Oh, and by the way, these strategies also apply to setting your own exposure in the semi automatic mode. You have to ask yourself some questions before determining your exposure settings. For instance, do you want to freeze the movement with a fast shutter speed?

Or do you want to blur the movement by using a slow shutter speed? And another important question, Is there enough light to set a low ISO? Or is the simpleton Do you need to use a high ISO, depending on what you're after you pick a strategy. But first go to your main menu and activate the manual mode. We'll start with fast shutter speed. First select the shutter speed icon and set it at 250 of a second.

You see the camera is not adjusting. It's way too dark, so we need to adjust that ourselves. Then select the ISO icon and while keeping an eye on your histogram, you navigate through the different ISO settings. You can see the histogram moving from left to right. Yes, we have Arrived at the optimal exposure setting. photographing with a slow shutter speed follows basically the same procedure.

Select the shutter speed icon and set the slow shutter speed. Then select the ISO icon like this The image is too bright as we can clearly see in both DMH and the large red spike in histogram. So we're going to lower the ISO while checking the histogram until the wide will show structure and the histogram is just moving out of the red zone. When there is enough light available, you can shoot with a low ISO it will result in sharp and detailed images. Always try to keep your ISO as low as possible without underexposing. Select the ISO icon asset low ISO.

Then select the shutter speed icon and adjust your shutter speed. Check the histogram and see it moving from left to right. And again we've arrived at the proper exposure setting When you need to shoot with a high ISO you again select the ISO icon first and set the ISO. You then select the shutter speed icon and slide the wheel while keeping an eye on the histogram. Keep sliding as long as there's a red spike and stop and shoot when it's starting to move to the left. Here we have them together.

As you can see, the exposure of all the images is more or less the same. But not only did we take different routes to get there, the settings are different as well resulting in differences in other aspects of the image.
