A “ball-winner” is a significant and valuable player on every team. These guys not only prevent your opponents from creating chances, but they are also the key players who initiate counterattacks; the very same counter attacks that result in many chances and goals.
Unfortunately, too few specialist players possess the skills to win balls, and many players struggle with these basic defensive skills. 
So, what skills do you need to master to be a great ball-winner in 1v1 situations against a “right-facing” attacker? 
When you decide to try and win the ball from an attacking player, you must choose the right technique in the heat of the moment.
