Thomas Hörster played for the German national team in the eighties, and I enjoyed playing with him at Bayer 04 Leverkusen.
Thomas was an excellent all-round player; however, one of his skills particularly stood out: Tackling in the frontal defending position. There were very few attackers who could dribble past Hörster when he could use his efficient scissor tackle.
Hörster was, by no means, among the fastest players in the game at the time, but that did not matter when he had the tackling skills that few could match.
It was hard to avoid Hörster’s tackles and watching a player like this at work highlights the importance of investing in the skills you are particularly good at as a player; i.e., honing your strengths.
