The Power of Your Why?

The key to accomplishing your goals is to have a powerful why. The “why” is the connection between your inner wanting to achieve a certain health goal and your ability to actually get there.

Hey, this is Dr. Day. And welcome to our first module. I would argue that this first module, the next four or five videos are probably the most important thing that you're going to learn out of this entire program. Why do I say that? Because when you learn how to set health goals, and you achieve those health goals, not only do you have confidence that you can achieve goals in the future, but you actually feel better and you have the energy to do it. So this very first module is called the power of y.

Now, why do we care about why? The reason why is when you have an emotional connection to your goal, you are more motivated to actually achieve it. When you have an emotional connection to your goal. It will help you through the difficult challenges that it takes to get to your goal. We're going to talk about doing changes to your lifestyle. knows can be really challenging.

But if you have an emotional attachment to how you're going to get to the other side, you're more likely to actually achieve that goal. When we talk about bouncing your blood sugar's, I mean, that's just something on a piece of paper. It's a number in your glucometer. So that's not a real emotional attachment. I'm going to tell you a story. I had a patient whose blood sugar's were higher than normal, and she also needed to lose weight.

And so we talked about what is the power of her why of getting her back to health. Now for her the power of her wife was her daughter. So she was so large that when her daughter tried to hug her, she actually couldn't put her hands together. Her daughter was young, maybe about seven years old. So the power of her wife was that she wanted to know what it felt like to have her daughter be able to hug her and put Her hands together around her waist. And when that happened, she cried and cried.

And she cried because one, she finally had that emotional connection of feeling what it felt like to be healthier for her child. And it also gave her not on the emphasis to continue to move forward. But she also was so proud of herself for actually achieving her goal. So I want you to spend some time and think about how your life would be different when you achieve your health goal. So it's not just about one a piece of paper, having the numbers line up, but how are you going to feel emotionally? How are you going to feel physically?

How are you going to feel intellectually? How are you going to feel socially like immediately think about it? So let's talk about what it really looks like for you to achieve your health goals. Now, I know Do you want to balance your blood sugar's and I want that for you too. But let's broaden that out and just think about how you're going to feel in total when you achieve that goal. So for you, that might mean you end up losing weight, not just balancing your blood sugar's, you may have a different body size, you might have more energy, you might have more financial freedom because you're not actually having to pay for medications.

You're not having to pay for your glucometer you're not you have more time, because you're not having to run to the doctor every so often to check your blood sugars. So this is what I want you to focus on and what I want you to think about, I want you to think about overall What are all of the benefits that you are going to have when you achieve your health goal. So when you get to your handout, you're actually going to fill out a couple different areas. We're going to look at Financially, how's it gonna look different socially, spiritually, emotionally, and intellectually. So think about all of those things. And when you do, you will get the powerful y that you will carry with you through the rest of this course, that's going to help you in those moments where you feel stuck around how to change your diet, or how to you're going to get one more exercise session in or how you're going to get to bed earlier so that you actually achieve your goals of bouncing your blood sugar's make sense, really powerful stuff.
