Welcome back. In this section, we're going to look at what happens when you are traveling. So maybe you're traveling for a special event, or maybe you're just traveling for the weekend, or you're traveling for vacation. And sometimes people can get nervous about falling off your habits. The first thing I'm going to say is, first, just relax. When you're in a different environment, you'll just have to do the best that you can do.

And then when you come back to your regular life, you may have to just go back to those normal habits that you've already started to establish, and things will go back to normal. So don't get freaked out about being away for three or four days or even a week or two. Just do the best you can with all the tools that I've already provided to you. That being said, let me give you a couple of different ideas that you might want to think about when you're traveling around. When you're away, continue to do exercise, a lot of times people will go away and they will throw away every single healthy habit saying, Oh my gosh, it's vacation, I'm not going to do anything healthy. And that can actually throw your body out of whack.

And you might not feel is energized, you might feel more tired, you might catch a cold. All these things can happen in addition to your blood sugar's going up and down, because you've thrown out all of your healthy habits. So the first thing I'm going to say is continue to exercise, whether that's taking a walk or if you're at a hotel, going down to the gym, you know, just taking some quiet time for yourself and continuing to do some type of movement or exercise. If you're going to visit with family or friends, if they have an exercise routines, see if you can join in with their exercise that way. It's fun, and you're actually having relationship and fellowship while you're exercising and you're in throwing away your exercise routines. So that's one of the first thing.

The second thing is do the best you can with the foods that you have. Think about taking snack. So on a plane or in a car, you can actually take food even if you can't take drinks or liquids. So feel free to take your favorite protein powder, take some nuts and seeds and some other snacks with you so that when you arrive at your destination, you actually have some of the foods that you're using you're used to eating and that you may not have access to depending on what you're doing for your special extended weekend or your vacation travel. I've had plenty of patients that have actually said to the people that they are either going to visit or where they're saying, Hey, is there a you know grocery store or a health food store that's close by I like to pick up a couple things.

And in that way in the house you have things that you are used to eat In addition to whatever you're doing with your hosts, so that way you don't have them feel put out and you don't feel put out in the same way. Oftentimes, if you tell whoever you're with or the vacation, or hotel or whatever that you have a special dietary recommendations that they will actually try to accommodate you. So consider doing that as well. Try to continue to get good sleep. Now if you're on vacation, that might be a perfect time to actually sleep in or sleep later or get more sleep which you can do, or you may be running around with with your family or friends or whoever. And try to still get to bed at a decent time and try to still get between six to eight hours of sleep no matter where you are.

Now, while you're away, try to practice any type of stress management techniques, breathing is free. And usually there's a quiet moment or five minutes that you can take Whatever it is that you're doing that will help you get situated. And if you're like running around with your friends, I have actually found when I do meditation, I invite them to join in, they may be interested in doing it too. So again, if your stress management techniques join in, and part of stress management is laughter, having fun playing. So if you are away and you're doing those things, you'll feel more relaxed and that will help to dissolve and melt the stress away. So when you go on vacation, don't think you have to throw away all of the different things that you've been doing that it helps you feel energized and healthy and balanced.
