So once the image is dry, I went over erased any stray pencil marks, and they took a white gel pen. And I just made some highlights on the cork over here. And then I corrected some areas that may have gotten a little blurred in the title, just to preserve the whites and make it a little sharper. So here we have our completed image. It's kind of a fun take on a recipe. Now when you do an illustrated recipe, it doesn't have to be precise.
It's not going to be something that people necessarily use. You can make it as precise as you want. But it's more the art of it than the actual use of the recipe. I wanted to show you some variations that I had. So once again, here are the images from class. The three suggested placement images for the step by step recipe.
So for the first one where we have the main image and then the title, and then it's written I took the main Image made it a little larger. So I traced around it with pencil. And then I just expanded it and grew the image a little bit. I also went with a background that was a little different. Instead of the blues and purples from the bottle, I chose the complementary colors. So I went orange and yellow.
And for the title, I didn't illustrate it, I kept it very simple. I wanted the main focus to be on the image, the illustration of the image and not the illustrations scattered throughout. So for this one, I used text for the title and then I actually explain the recipe. So you could follow this to the letter and have your recipe complete. For the second image where the main drawing the main illustration is in the center, and then the pieces on around it. I have this one.
And so I have my main image. Again with my title I decided to go with a much more simple route and I just used block handwriting. Again, it's my handwriting. It's not perfect, but it's very legible, and you can see what it is. It doesn't distract from our images. And then for each of the steps, I've numbered them so that the eye is drawn to the numbers kind of formed a circle around our main image, very similar to the one we did in class, in terms of colors, and in terms of design, but because we changed the direction of it, and the direction of the images, it's a little different.
Still very fun. And for the last one, just like we did in class, I did this one first, which was the image but the inverse. So instead of my image on the right, like we did in class, my main image is on the left, and then I just did the ingredients in the steps all around it. I chose to make it really simple with the steps being one word chop fill weight and strain, just like we did in class. Here. I didn't number it, but I did make these arrows very bold, so it directed the eye accordingly.
And one more variation very similar to the one we did in class, I used a little more text here. So for each one, I actually explained the process instead of just saying chop, I wrote chop three to four jalapenos. So I gave a number as well as the entire step. And then over here, add to jar cover with tequila, and close shake, so on and so forth throughout. After you have your image, then the question is, what can I do with it? Well, obviously, it's a piece of art in itself.
And here we have it an eight by 10. What I do as I scan them into my computer, and then I have the made into postcards. So this is a much smaller image. very succinct, but I have it all put down together. It's handy. I could tuck it in my cookbooks to use as a reference tool.
It also saves the page on the cookbook, but it also is my work. So I really enjoy that. Be sure to sign your name over here. I did this Just under the tequila bottle, a couple of things. I also included a downloadable list here where you can download it and it just gives five tips for making this illustrated recipe, specifically changing colors or changing ingredients as you like. And I included a bonus class where I actually created the recipe in real time in person not illustrated but I actually made it like a cooking show.
So I hope you enjoy that. Thanks for joining me today. I hope you follow me and try your hand at one of these recipes. Thanks for watching.
