DESCRIPTION: About lesson
Surya Namaskar and Hatha Yoga
Hatha means forceful or vigorous. The Sanskrit word Hatha is composed of two syllables: ha and that. Ha stands for the seer, the Self, the soul (Purusa), and for the sun (Surya) and the in-breath (prana). Tha represents nature (Prakriti), consciousness (Citta), the moon (Chandra), and the outbreak (Apana). Yoga means union. Hatha yoga, therefore, means the union of Purusa with Prakriti, consciousness with the soul, the sun with the moon, and prana with Apana.
Hatha Yoga is a branch of yoga detailing the practices to purify our body and mind through Shat-Karmas, followed by balancing the right-left, solar-lunar, prana-Apana, and masculine-feminine energies. This path further leads us to master our senses and mind leading to Dharana or concentration practices. Hatha Yoga Pradipika and Gheranda Samhita are key Hatha Yoga scriptures.
Even though there is no actual mention of Suriya Namaskars in Hatha Yoga scriptures like Hatha Yoga Pradipika...
