Structure of the compact and cancellous bone

Compact bone has a compact arrangement of a hard inorganic matrix. This hard portion of the bone makes up the main shaft of the long bones and the outer layer of all bones. Compact bone protects spongy bone and provides the firm framework of the bone and the body.
cancellous bone, also called trabecular bone or spongy bone, light, porous bone enclosing numerous large spaces that give a honeycombed or spongy appearance. The bone matrix, or framework, is organized into a three-dimensional latticework of bony processes, called trabeculae, arranged along lines of stress.
