DESCRIPTION: 


Aortic Valve
A valve in the heart between the left ventricle and the aorta. It is composed of three semilunar cusps that close in diastole to prevent blood from flowing back into the left ventricle from the aorta.


Atria
A chamber or cavity, such as the right and left atria of the heart or the nasal cavity.


Left Atrium
One of the four chambers of the heart. The left atrium receives oxygenated blood from the lung.


Right Atrium
One of four chambers of the heart. The right atrium receives deoxygenated blood from the body.


Ventricles
A small cavity, such as the right and the left ventricles of the heart or one of the cavities filled with cerebrospinal fluid in the brain.


Left Ventricle
The thick-walled chamber of the heart that pumps blood through the aorta and the systemic arteries, the capillaries, and back through the veins to the right atrium. It receives oxygenated blood from the left atrium.
