Learn why collaboration is so important, and is probably not as hard as you think! (Real First Lecture video)

Transcript

Hi, my name is Alex. And in this course, you're going to learn how to manage effectively for collaboration. So why do you need to learn to manage collaboration, because it's not something you're naturally born with, we don't all just know how to help others collaborate and how to bring out the best and other people. But we can learn it. So that's the good news. We need to be good collaborators and to encourage that in our team, because good collaboration is energizing.

It's innovative, it's motivating, whereas poor collaborating events can frequently just turn into venting about the status quo or complaining about things that'll never work. Or, Oh, I wish I could do it this way. But I know they won't let me and you know, just really gets a very negative vibe. So you're going to learn here How to keep things upbeat, how to stay positive, how to keep progressing, keep moving forward, and hopefully be able to get the best out of your team. Good collaboration is a lot like making a cake. And you have all your ingredients, which in this case are your team members.

And you pull together, you know, the flour and the sugar, and eggs and whatnot, and you put them together. And that doesn't automatically make a cake, what you need to do is to put them together in the right order in the right quantity and the right environment. And then you'll get something delicious. But without all those other pieces, you can't just expect those ingredients to magically turn into something beautiful. So the good news is, you can learn how to do this and you probably have the people you need, and you probably have the ideas you need already in your team already ready to go. We just need to get the best out of them.

And we can do that.
