Hi, welcome to this course on the business model canvas. I've been using the business model canvas for probably about eight years now seven, eight years. Since it's been introduced to me, I have found it an absolutely invaluable tool for both both helping me to design my own businesses and analyzing other other people's businesses. I've used it to help me evaluate ideas when I'm just starting a business and to help me find good pivots good ways of changing a business where we need to rethink strategy. I've used it to help job people apply to jobs and prepare for the job interviews because it can give you great insights into a company that you want to work for, or a company that you're competing against. The best part of it is it is a very, very simple tool.

It is a certainly is a single sheet of paper that you could change quickly and rapidly. It takes a few minutes to to do and then you can keep on iterating. And for many small business owners and entrepreneurs is the guide map. Yeah, if you're not sure what to do, you look back at your business model canvas you have on the wall or whiteboard behind you and say, This is what we're doing. How does this decision fit in with the business model canvas, and then you say, Okay, I need to change the business model canvas, or I need to change my decision. So, in this course of lessons, we're going to go through nine lessons after this one, and going through each of the different segments of the business model canvas.

And these are the customers the value proposition that you offer to your customers, they channels that you reach your customers by and the relationships that you Have with your customers. We'll look at the the money that the customers give you for the value proposition, and the key resources that you need to have under your control in order to deliver the value proposition who look at the activities that you need to be undertaking on a daily, weekly and monthly basis to deliver the value proposition. And of course, the key partners who you need to have on site to give you the additional resource is for the activities to make it all happen. And finally, we'll look at the cost that you will incur in delivering the activities in acquiring the resources or keeping your partners on site. The result of all this is that you will have an amazingly clear view of your business and what is important to you.

For me, the best thing about business model canvas for new entrepreneurs is Then when we start, most of us have a particular set of domain knowledge we made a great salesman may have come from a product basis, we may be great at the finances, it's very rare that we have a broad view of the whole of the business strategy have everything that we need to know. And so what we'll do is we'll tend to focus in on one particular area, because it's nice, it's warm, it's comfortable. We know this, and then we leave other parts aside. Yeah, we'll pick up later. And that and that's a big mistake. Using the big business model canvas means that we look at the big picture early, and we're able to say, I know absolutely nothing about sourcing goods from China.

Do I want to do this? Am I going to be good at doing this? No, I'm not going to be good at this. But actually, I don't need to be good at that. Because it's possible for me to buy this resource from somebody else. Yeah.

By that factor, experience or, or that skill set from somebody else. And using this insight, you're then able to build a much more effective business model that plays to your strengths, compensates feel for your weaknesses, and contributes a lot to to your success. So in this, in this series of talks, what I'd like you to do at the end, or even as you're, as you're, as I'm talking to you is sit down with a printed out a business model canvas and start writing on it. And as you go through each one, keep on changing, keep on iterating. Keep on drawing it, figuring out what is the business model that is going to work for you. And of course, do ask questions in the comments.

We're always going to be here to help you provide answers to you that's that's me Dennis. I'm the course teacher for this and also Leander you don't see but There's a lot of work in the background. And he's very skilled at putting business model campuses together. So do ask us questions in the in the comments. And if you've got something really specific, do send us an email and say, ask a specific question. And we'll do our best to do to satisfy you and bring that to life.

So, once again, thanks a lot for signing up to this course and good luck and let us know about how your business model succeeds.
