Hi, I'm Joe Crosby and I'll be your instructor in this online course on emotionally intelligent leadership. I am pleased that you have selected it, I have confidence that you'll be equally pleased by what you get out of this course. I have had the pleasure of being an organization development professional since 1984. Drawing on a long and rich history of work and theories going back throughout time, and the wisdom of my mentor, my father, Robert P. Crosby. He started his career in the same field back in the 1950s. So we're bringing that all together to you in a package, and I believe you'll find that it really pays off over the remainder of your professional career and your personal life.

You have to start with yourself. If you want to create high performance in an organization, Gandhi put it so well when he said you must be the change you want to see in the world. So if you want people to handle authority relationships in a mature manner, where they're willing to speak to people above them below them, and peers respectfully, and yet delve into difficult work issues so that they can be solved, then you have to start with yourself with living up to those same standards. That is how to lead an organization. This course has a much more detailed outline. But here's the general flow.

First, we're going to focus on a model of leadership that was developed by Edwin Friedman, it comes out of family systems thinking. We bring the same habits and the same emotional reactivity that we learned in our families into the workplace. And so the more objective you are about your own habits, around conflict around emotionality around being an authority figure or dealing with authority figures, the more calm and effective you will be. So that's where we begin. Then we go into detail about emotional intelligence. There's been tons of research done during the past few decades.

And there's a lot of practical advice, which I'm looking forward to conveying to you. Then there's a critical behavioral science model from a man named dr. john Wallen, that is going to assist you in clearing up misunderstandings and Reducing misunderstandings at home and at work. And finally, I go into various ways that you can apply emotionally intelligent leadership to real work situations and dilemmas so that you can help build a high performance and highly engaged organization. So again, I'm pleased that you've chosen this course and I'm looking forward to hearing from you. I will gladly respond to any of your questions. And let's proceed.

Take care
