The Mooladhara Chakra and Lumbar Plexus

Our root chakra or Mooladhara chakra is located at the base of the spine near the tailbone.
This chakra can be associated with the lumbar plexus. This complex plexus of lumbar plexus and sacral plexus controls lower extremities, and the activities of the pelvic floor via the pudendal nerve and has anterior and posterior parts. The function of the rectum, anus and as well as sensations from these areas are governed by this posterior sacral cluster of nerves.
The smooth muscles of the intestines are controlled through stretch receptors and peristaltic reflexes. At the anal opening area, the immense amount of nerve receptors expands to include receptors for hot and cold, light touch, vibration and both sharp and dull pain.
