DESCRIPTION: What are the six vital Indian Philosophies?
Indian Philosophy, or in Sanskrit, Darshanas, refers to any of several traditions of philosophical thought that originated in the Indian subcontinent. These six primary schools of philosophies are followed by most Hindus in one or other form. These are various practical ways of living life to attain Self-realisation. These six are Samkhya, Yoga, Nyaya, Vaisheshika, Purva Mimamsa and Vedanta.
What is Samkhya Darshana?
Samkhya is the oldest of the Indian philosophical systems, and it explains that everything in reality evolutes from Purusha (self or soul) and Prakriti (matter, creative force or energy in the cause of all creation). It is a based on the Dvaita or dualist system where self and matter are seen attached. By realising that Purusha is free from all the matter and changes, one attains Self-realisation.
