If you ask me the most exciting part about filmmaking is hands down the gear, cameras, lights, microphone, and the list goes on. These are some toys are our tool for creating film and video. I know a lot of people who get into filmmaking and videography just because of the passion for cameras and lenses. It's not totally necessary to have the best equipment in order to produce great content, but it can definitely help. In high end productions. You'll see some very sophisticated technology out there.

But the truth is that in today's digital world, your very own cell phone can produce fantastic quality video. I've even dedicated an entire workshop for producing a great content with your mobile phone that can be found in this course later on. Okay, let's get started camera, you're most definitely not going to be able to get started on filmmaking without a camera. A fantastic choice for an entry level camera that is both affordable and practical is the Canon EOS Rebel SL one it can be purchased for as little as $350. I get my pricing for my favorite place to get gear b&h, which is pretty huge equipment retailer in New York. You can get it brand new or used on eBay if you prefer.

Now, this is not a GoPro action camera, so don't strap it on your head and go skydiving. This is a surprisingly sharp and easy to use camera with an interchangeable lens mount and it produced nice stills as well. There are even less expensive models and cameras out there. But in my opinion, this is a great place to start. You can definitely do your own research, and you will discover few more models from different manufacturers. And other little bundle deal I recently found was the Canon EOS de fi video key With a Rode microphone with this bundle, you actually get a really nice package deal that includes a T five eye camera body, plus, you get an 18 to 55 millimeter lens kit, which again is not the sharpest tool in the shed, but it has a very nice range that goes all the way from 18 millimeter a relatively wide angle up until 55 millimeter, which is like a short telephoto field.

On top of that you also get a Rode microphone, which is an absolute fantastic Illa mic that records much much better sound and the built in microphone off the camera. You also get a 32 gigabyte SD memory card give you all you need to just go out there and shoot. This entire bundle deal is 650 US dollars, which sounds hefty, but relatively speaking it's pretty great bargain. Of course you can have a look on eBay or anything else in the second hand market for even better deals. Now, let's move on to lenses. lenses are extremely important and come in a wide range of quality and variety and cost and whatever for someone just starting out, I recommend going for the 50 millimeter 1.8 prime lens by canon.

This is definitely the lens that you will get most for your buck, and it's the best tool to actually study and grow with. This little piece of glass is extremely sharp and can produce some great images and videos. It's great for a low light because of its fast aperture and it has a beautiful shallow depth of field and overall it's just a really great lens. You can purchase it for only 110 US dollars at b&h and it will work with the camera buddies I mentioned earlier. Again, feel free to check out secondhand sources for even better bargains. Now that I covered the basic of cameras and lenses, let's move to tripods.

A very important tool in creating fixed and stabilized video images. The world of tripod is vast and diverse. But of course, we're also starting a new business and don't want to spend too much money. So a very basic tripod should suit our needs at this point in the lumen protocol iminium tripod for only $99. Now, this is a great little introductory tripod, but don't count on too much camera operating and complexity here. In my advanced course, we will cover much more complex cinematography movements with larger more advanced cameras and heavy duty lenses, and all sorts of adjustments in that will require more support than the Manfrotto tripod could offer.

But the Manfrotto is definitely suitable for the type of gear I mentioned previously in this course. Okay, we have the camera, lenses, microphone, and tripod. All we need now is a working editing suite. Now, I'm a Mac user. And we all know that Apple computers and laptops are a little more on the expensive side. There are two ways to look at this.

Today. Even if you're not in the media field you most likely use a laptop. If you don't, I suggest investing Having an expensive Apple computer is not a must, you can get away with editing HD footage, and use the Adobe Premiere editing software on almost every computer you will buy today, it might not work as smoothly, but that also really depends on the volume of your work. If you think that you will have a larger workload, and that you will acquire more editing and storage space for footage and all kinds of stuff, I do recommend getting something like the MacBook Pro for 1300 dollars. There are also other models that might dip below the $1,000 and other secondhand bargains, you can definitely get away with a MacBook Air for around $700 and even less sometimes. Another possibility is to purchase a Mac Mini for $500 and to connect it to a monitor or even with a basic new PC laptop for about $300 all these combinations can still do the job.

So together with the Canon USD five I video key with the Manfrotto tripod and the road microphone. You will be spending approximately 750 US dollars. On top of that, assuming that you will don't have a computer at all, you might invest another $750 on your editing suite. So we're talking about an approximate 1500 dollars investment for your attorney coming video. Not too bad. And trust me after this ghost you will cover your expenses very quickly.

A few more things to remember you don't actually have to buy anything at all. You can simply rent the gear according to the specification of the project. Renting a nice little DSLR camera with lens and microphone in cars and batteries would most likely not exceed $200 per day. For $200 per day you can get a Sony A seven SS your camera body and lens adapter for your choice and the 24 105 canon l lens and a fully operable video tripod you get what I'm saying? competition is fierce out there and a lot of video people do offer the service along with their own personal gear. Many other video businesses will have the most shiny new expensive cameras and tools.

While you're carrying the most basic video kit. This doesn't mean that you can't go out and work. There are many more factors that contributes to great content than the gear you use. You might be a brilliant creative writer or director, an awesomely sharp editor or even a great entrepreneur. No matter what it is, you will find your niche and use your abilities to create the best content you can make. You don't necessarily have to spend the money until you ensure your income from your client.

With that said, I personally recommend spending at least $1,000 on gear simply because the likelihood that you will practice is much higher. In the next lecture we'll be discussing the wonderful world of flight. We will explore the camera functionality and discuss exposing your image correctly composing images and much much much, much more.
