F stop in aperture. In the last lecture, I gave you a brief overview of frame rate and shutter speed the second of the three components involved in exposing an image. Now, I'll go into depth on the third component f stop and aperture. Different from the shutter and ISO the aperture does not exist in the camera body mechanism. The aperture exists inside the lens, the lower the aperture number is, the more light will come through the lens which will make our image brighter. For example, if your aperture or your F stop is at F 11, your image will be darker than if it's f 2.8. aperture also effects and other very important variable depth of field.

Depth fulfilled essentially refers to the area which is in focus. If you draw an axis from the lens straightforward, the depth of field will travel along that axis. By holding the focusing on our lands we will change the depth of field from its minimum Since from the lens towards infinity now is our aperture number is lowered, our depth of field becomes more narrow. And as the aperture number is raised the depth of field is actually getting wider, is a lot more to F stop the numbers it is actually an entire mathematical way to calculate light and exposure. I will go into greater depth about f stop in the advanced course. Just keep in mind that the lower your F stop number is the more light enters inside the lens and the narrower the depth of field becomes.

The higher the F stop number is the less light enters inside the lens and the depth of field is wider. This is a useful technique for manipulating your audience I by keeping the focus on the area which is in focus in the frame in order to achieve a nice blurry background if you should want. It might seem a little confusing and it can take you a while to really sink in. But when it does believe me you will be in Exposure expert and you will be able to expose both your videos and your still photos correctly. In the next lecture we will be talking about the rule of thirds. And later on, we will go out to the field for a hands on camera workshop, so you can fully understand how to put all this knowledge to use in a simple and practical way.
