Hi, and welcome to this section. In this section we are going to build yet another network application. And trust me, it's going to be quite fun. So this application will connect to a network device. In our case, that would be an Arista switch via SSH. We are going to use the same application code and custom built modules as we did in the first network application earlier in the course, only with a couple of twists.
After establishing the network connection over SSH, we are going to query the switch using a specific command in order to obtain the current CPU utilization on the switch. Next, we're going to extract the value of this parameter using regular expressions and then save the value to a text file on our local file system. This process is going to be performed periodically once every 10 seconds until we interrupt the execution of the program. Each time the value is extracted from the output. we append that value the same text file, thus building a small database of indicators about the performance of the device. Finally, our application should be able to read the values from the text file and use them to create a nice graph that will help us gain a better overview of the switches CPU utilization over time, our graph will be updated in real time.
Also once every 10 seconds, each time the application reads new data from the switch and append it to the text file. In the next lectures, we are going to analyze the scripts together and have every piece of code explained. And you're going to be able to download the application and all the necessary scripts and modules. At the end of this section, you can go to the end of this section right after this video ends and download all the files and follow my explanations. However, as always, I strongly advise you to pause the videos and write the code yourself. As I previously said, some of the scripts we've already seen and analyzed throughout the videos of our first network application.
But you should at least write the new code that this third application brings for practicing the art of writing code, and better grasp each new concept in this section. I'll see you in the next lecture.
